Parent Taught Driver's Ed Course Tour
Parent Taught Driver's Ed
Our PTDE course is broken down into 12 easy modules with sections covering specific topics. Each unit will contain interactive slides that will help you learn how to drive.
In order to be the parent instructor, you must meet the following requirements:
Instructors are responsible for checking their criminal and driver records prior to requesting the PTDE Program Guide. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will verify the instructor's driving history when it processes the student's learner license and again when it processes the student's provisional driver's license.
If DPS determines the instructor does not meet the requirements, DPS will deny the learner license or provisional driver's license along with any prior classroom instruction or behind-the-wheel/in-car instruction provided by the ineligible instructor.
*Optionally, your parent or legal guardian can designate an individual to be your instructor, however, they must meet additional requirements. Please click here to view those additional requirements.
Driver's Ed Program Overview
This course covers the state-required 32 hours of classroom online education. The parent-taught portion of the course allows the parent to be the in-car instructor for the "behind-the-wheel" instruction. We will provide an in-car driving manager that enables the parent to quickly and easily complete the required topics.
